Dropbox is a folder you set up on your machine for sharing files with yourself or others over the internet. You can set up a folder for a specific friend, drop in a file and it will not only be backed up online but your friends will receive the file in the background.

The best part is that you can install dropbox on your home machine and at work and load in your files to have in both locations. If your work does not let you install the software, you will be able to use the website interface for install free sharing.

The free accounts offer you 2GB of storage, you can pay monthly for extra space if you need it.

I personally think that with the 2GB space it could be a good place for a simple offsite backup since it works in the background. and since you get an extra 250MB for signing up with my referral code you will get 2.25GB st start and an extra 250MB per friend you have sign up.

What is Liberty?

I am sure all of us have asked ourselves

What is Liberty, what does it really mean?

Today I came across a Video in Twitter I found very interesting!

The Philosophy of Liberty

I don’t know exactly what to make of it yet but perhaps after a week of daily viewing it will come to me.

Changing of the blog

Hello to all of you reading this.  If your not reading this, please ignore the previous sentence.

I heard a great line last week, A celeb was talking about blogging or rather why she is not blogging as much as she used to. Her reply, “I realized I didn’t have anything interesting to say” and “I will just post when there is something interesting”

I realized I was feeling this same way and decided to stop blogging just for the sake of blogging. So from here out my blog will only be about things that interest me and not just a song of the day link or silly video. Thank you for letting me figure this out and not telling me how silly it has been 😉

I will however still post a song or video now and then when I think they are especially interesting (like anything by Pompalamoose. I have linked to a couple of their videos and I really suggest you check out all of their videos.

I am still playing around with video editing so you may see more of my original stuff coming soon.

Simple Egg Ramen for one

Dawn has asked for a recipe for my Egg Ramen. It’s very simple and perfectly easy to prepare.

What you need…

1 Package Beef Flavored Top Ramen noodles or similar.

1 1/2 cups water

1 Egg (Chicken)

1 Large Soup Cup or Soup Bowl (1o ounces or more)

Preparation time: 5 Min.

Break up the Ramen noodles inside the package before you open it. I usually break it into 4 pieces.

Open the package and remove the flavoring packet, pour the broken noodles into the soup cup.

Add the 1 1/2 cups of water to just cover the noodles and microwave on high for 3 min. If the noodles expand add water to keep just covered with water but usually 1.5 cups seems to work well.

Remove from the microwave, add about 1/2 the seasonings in the packet and stir well. see note 1

Break the egg into the cup and stir 3 or 4 times to break the yolk and slightly mix into the noodles.

Microwave for another 1-3 minutes until the mixture begins to boil. Remove the boiling mixture from the microwave and stir. The egg should finish cooking and thicken the remaining liquid.

The finished dish should be thicker than soup but not as stiff as oatmeal but then you can adjust the water to change it to what you prefer anyway.

I freshly crush some black pepper on top grab my favorite tablespoon and enjoy!

This is the perfect small meal for one person on the go for way under $2.00

Note:  Toss in a small handful of frozen stir fry vegetables to make this a pretty balanced meal for under $3.00.

Note1: You may add more of the flavoring packet for more flavor but since we are not making soup we do not need so much extra flavor and salt. I suggest even trying your own seasonings and throwing away that packet.

Asian flair (a splash or two of Soy sauce, 1/2 tsp. garlic, 3-4 drops of good sesame oil).
Southwest Flair (dash of Cumin, splash of chili sauce or powder, pinch of salt)

HFCS Update #1

I have been looking around and it’s very hard to try to extract the science from the marketing speak in most of the HFCS reports.
It seems that whenever the report is supported from a large company (whom uses HFCS in their products) they seem to agree that all sugars can cause obesity. They all have a real hard time saying that there are differences between sucrose and fructose. Notice how they say “all sugars”, they refuse to say that HFCS is any different than other sugars.

When you find the reports not supported by industry, they always talk about the differences in the way different sugars are processed in our bodies.  Many of these reports talk about the absorption of sugars and the various chemicals that our bodies create when consuming these sugars. I am starting to learn the various processes and what is still unknown is how these various chemicals interact with the other chemicals and the effects on our bodies.

In Example:  We all know that it makes us feel good to eat chocolate, do you know why?

You feel better because of 4 major chemicals that are created while your body is processing the chocolate..
Theobromine: A mild stimulant similar to caffeine, a mood enhancer.
Serotonin: A naturally present chemical in the brain that can cause elevated moods.
Phenethylamine: Thought to be an aphrodisiac (though unproven).
Tryptophan: Combines with the  Serotonin and helps one relax.

So by processing these chemicals we end up Happy and Relaxed, and who doesn’t like being Happy and Relaxed?

So back the the HFCS info, a few questions you may have, and I welcome more questions anytime!

Are all sugars bad?
Specifically all sugars can be bad if they are overused. Try to use less sugars on a daily basis. Remember your body needs some sugars but if your eating fruit as part of a daily healthy diet you probably do not need to add any sugars to your meals or beverages.

If all sugars are bad, are they equally bad?
No, processed sugars are harder for your body to break down and will have the tendancy to become stored as fat rather than used for energy. The best sugars are found in Fresh Fruit, followed by the raw sugar from sugar cane, then brown sugars. White sugars have actually been bleached white and should be avoided if possible (hard not to use some on cold cereal huh).

Which sugars are best to avoid?
Highly processed sugars are the worst, specifically conversions that contain both sucrose and fructose (i.e. HFCS). Keep an eye out for a post covering this subject. I need more research to really get to the bottom of it.

Are sugar substitutes ok?
I can only say NO, do not consume substitute foods. Which leads me to the last segment for this entry.

Eat what you enjoy!
Being healthy is not about how much you weigh, it’s all about how you feel. Remember your grandma used to tell you that you are what you eat (my grandma was a dietitian). If you eat junky food you will feel junky. If you eat a healthy diet you will feel better and have more energy to go out and do things. Eat what you enjoy, everything in moderation! Stop Dieting! Dieting has proved that it does not work! Eat good home cooked foods made from scratch. You will enjoy it more! If your overweight just try to eat slower so you will eat less. Stop eating when your no longer hungry, eat again when you become hungry. It really is ok to snack all day if the snacks are healthy (fruits and veggies) and your meals are balanced proteins/starches/sugars.

I am not just sprouting bullshit here, I have lived on both sides of the fence. Yes, I am overweight but I am very healthy (knock on wood) because I eat properly whenever possible. Yes I cheat every once in a while but I am trying to stop gaining weight as I get older. 🙂

My next goals will be to perhaps start loosing weight. 😦

A nice story in laymans terms from the Mayo Clinic: High-fructose corn syrup: What are the concerns?

Searching around there are many stories about how HFCS is not bad, if you approach these stories as possible marketing propaganda (always read everything in the web in that manner) you can find the truth buried in the marketing speak. As an ex-marketing professional I know all about marketing speak.

EN-V Envy?

Here we go with General Motors latest romp into the electric vehicle. The EN-V -pronounced as Envy, is based on an ultra-lightweight design. With a top speed of 24mph it could be the perfect inner city commuter.

We even have the technology to make it truly autonomous but would you allow a car to drive you around town?

With a foot print of 5×5 it’s small enough to park in your hallway or a small shed. = Easy to store in your Apartment.

Since it’s electric I can see the feasibility of actually having access inside buildings for parking. = Faster to destination.

Since it is very light weight a simple parking elevator could be designed. = Cheaper parking charges

General Motors is working with Segway Inc. to make this Two-Seated, Two-Wheeled, Zero-Emission vehicle a reality. Based on the Segway Puma (Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility) the research has been going on for a long time.

There is a really good read over at The Huffington Post and the GM website press release has some info and if you search  GM.COM you can find more. There are a bunch of Images over at the GM site but some are awfully silly looking some look pretty cool.

If I lived in the city I think something like this would be very useful but then I really like small cars.

High Fructose Hell

Another prestigious report just in from Princeton University.

High Fructose Corn Syrup [HFCS] will make you fat!

A few months ago I remember reading about how HFCS creates a chemical in your brain that makes you think your hungry and makes you eat more. The scientists at Princeton have also found out that 2 groups of rats consuming the same total caloric intake per day with some having access to HFCS while others have access to plain table sugar, The HFCS rats became obese 100% of the time.  100% of the time! Please let me say it again, 100% of the time. Are you paying attention?

One Hundred Percent = HFCS will make you fat! it’s Science fact not Science fiction.

It's Science not Fiction

So you think having a soda with your dinner is ok?
Almost all American sodas and yes even most diet sodas contain HFCS.

Go ahead and read the original article from the Princeton University website.

Join me in reducing your consumption of High Fructose Corn Syrup. Help to spread the word to the soda manufacturers to go back to natural sugar and keep your Dentist employed!
